...with your turkey on Thursday?
Probably a couple of zinfandels here.
Follow Ups:
It's my under drinking age daughters and I today, so I'm not going crazy. I went down to the cellars (aka basement) and found a Kason Vineyards Old Vine Reserve 2010 Pinot Noir.
I'm sure someone came into my place and wanted to trade wine but I honestly have no recollections. From the label, it's everything I dislike in a wine:
1) Old Vine...what does that mean exactly?
2) Reserve hopefully the best barrels I guess
3) 100% french oak ...all new wood on Pinot?
So I'm thinking dark Syrah like Pinot from someone looking for high scores
What I got was a light colored (it was 2010 after all...very very cool) pinot with a slightly funky nose. It may have all been french oak, but they certainly weren't all new in 2010 so I'm confused by the label. Probably too much fruit for its own good...could use more of everything else....earth and stuff. Almost like it has residual sugar...probably just fruit though.
A pleasant surprise.
... 7 of us - we started with a Chasseur 2010 Russian River pinot noir and a 2013 Ferrari-Carano reserve chardonnay.
Then moved to fruity 2010 Gamba zin and a 2010 Rafanelli zin.
Also a Pride 2009 cabernet franc.
I am truly stuffed.
-2013 The Pinot Project (2)
-2012 Altes Herencia Garnatxa Negra - Spanish Grenache (2)
-2012 Byron Pinot Noir - Santa Barbara County (1)
-2012 Landmark Overlook Pinot Noir (2)
...good choices.
A pinot noir tasting.
late 90's, but still enjoy researching/purchasing it for special occasions.
The local shop I visited (K&L Wines) has a branch in SF.
Liked the shop (nice selection fairly priced) and the 7 bottles came in @ around $100 including taxes.
Probably go with a pinot noir and a white of some sort, probably a sauvignon blanc.
BTW I tried a bottle of Meiomi, but it was the 2013. I found it to be a fruit bomb, something that I haven't experienced in pinot before.
...haven't tried the 2013 Meiomi yet.
But the 2012 was fruity but pretty well balanced - particularly for $20.
I like pinot noirs on the fuller, rather than lighter side with turkey dinner.
Thought this was interesting:
I also prefer fuller wines, especially with beef or hearty Italian dishes, but I don't like the wine to overpower the food. Turkey being a fairly light-to-moderate flavored meat (even with my apple/brown sugar/cinnamon marinade and hickory smoke), is why I'm leaning toward a lightish-moderate bodied wine.
:)
...exactly.
With turkey dinner you just need some fruit to stand out.
We used to taste the French Noveau Beaujolais when they come out the Thursday before Thanksgiving and pick one to go with the dinner.
But those got a little boring.
I'm happy to say that I've never purchased a bottle of Nouveau Beaujo.
Although, in my college daze, I did buy some Taylor Cold Duck. There, I said it. LOL
It is a true wine, not sugared crap like Boones Farm and such.
A perfect wine for a cool autumn afternoon. Anytime rose' works. Would work wonderfully with Thanksgiving dinner.
But don't wait long to drink it. Freshness is one of the most important aspects of a beaujolais nouveau.
...that's better than Annie Green Springs.
Anyway, the New Beaj is not bad when the prices drop in a week or so.
Haven't made that decision yet, but since Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday, it'll be American wine. Maybe a lightish Pinot, maybe a not-too-oaky Chard, maybe Zin. I'm doing the turkey on the grill (as everyone should).
:)
...agree with the turkey on the grill (after brining) and all of your wine choices are good ones.
Enjoy!
Read a recommendation for syrah with the turkey dinner for the first time - might be interesting.
