...for the past two months my wine tasting group ha met.
Last month we tasted merlots - the best were in the $60 range and there weren't any I would buy.
This month we tasted Italian brunelos ($40 to $76) - I didn't care for any of them since they were all too minerally and acidic, lacking CA-style fruit but would go ok with food.
Next month it's current release zins so I will have a report.
Any recommendations you've found to be outstanding?
Follow Ups:
The Bedrock line is pretty good and, last time I was in, was in stock at Vintage Berkeley on College Ave.
I love Ridge zins, at retail now should be a good one: their East Bench Zinfandel, about 30 bucks.
It's a bit of a platitude, but Cakebread's zin is better, to me, than their cab!
Grgich is good zin, too.
Caymus zin is another good one.

...thanks.
Bedrock is good - in fact I'm going to a zinfandel dinner later in March and the winemaker will be there along with a few others.
I didn't think Caymus zin was available except at the winery.
as well as Novy.
Should have mentioned Carlisle! One of my favorite producers.
