...and I don't mean to be a snob, but I prefer a real champagne. Lots of decent, relatively inexpensive ones here in California - like the Gloria Ferrars or Mumms.
Proseco just tastes like a watered-down champagne to me.
Guess I don't see the point.

They make sparkling wines.
Give the French their due.
I missed a flight while sampling another glass of Gloria Ferrar. I also really enjoy the Domaine Carneros wines.
As for Italian sparklings, about half the cost of California. Just fun juice, much like Vinho Verdes.
...my favorite of the real champagnes, for the money, is Veuve Clicquot.
