...to drink out by the pool.Don't want anything as sweet and one dimensional as a white zin or as dry as the french rose' we tried.
Discovered Folie a Deux winery's "Menage a Trois Rose" with just the right balance for under $10.
Other recommendations are Chandon's Brut Rose champagne (around $12) or the excellent Roederer Brut Rose champagne (around $18).

Try Bordeaux Clairet (or Claret), highly recommended for Picnics and BBQ

How about a prosecco?
Cold, light, a few bubbles.
...and I don't mean to be a snob, but I prefer a real champagne. Lots of decent, relatively inexpensive ones here in California - like the Gloria Ferrars or Mumms.
Proseco just tastes like a watered-down champagne to me.
Guess I don't see the point.
Maybe I haven't had a good one.
They make sparkling wines.
Give the French their due.
I missed a flight while sampling another glass of Gloria Ferrar. I also really enjoy the Domaine Carneros wines.
As for Italian sparklings, about half the cost of California. Just fun juice, much like Vinho Verdes.
...my favorite of the real champagnes, for the money, is Veuve Clicquot.
