Funny you opt for a cru beaujolais, but an inexpensive pinot.
My experience with pinot is the good ones usually aren't cheap.

Agree, the Meridian Chardonnay for the money is a best buy.Believe it or not Decembers issue of Consumer Reviews had a taste test on Pinot Noirs and the Meridian bested 2 others that were in the $20 something range.
Yes,I have found for the most part that you have to go into the $$ range to find a top tier Pinot,the Meridian is an exception to the rule.
...but my motto has become, "life is too short to drink cheap wine".
Ever try Siduri pinot - one of my favorites.
