This new forum is timely!

I'm shopping around for a digital camera, and was wondering if there
are any standouts in the $250-300 range I should look into.

User friendlyness is also a high priority...

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hey Mikey!
Check out Circuit City near the Holyoke mall (across from Tweeters and Crap USA and Barnes and Noble). We got our Sony (I forget the model but I'll email it to you tonight, if I remember) there for a decent price. Oddly enough the kid working the department new his stuff.

Very pleased with my HP215.

It is at the 199 price point...

You WILL need..

NiMh betteries..preferably 8 of them. A charger for them. At least a 16 mB compact flash card. A card reader is nice as well...so you do not have to use the camera and cord to load pictures in the computer.

This will round out your 300 dollars nicely.

Batts. Sears die hards 24.00
Charger..Sears 10.00
Chip 16 megs/32 megs 50.00/80.00
Card reader 30.00
Carrying case 20.00

It is very nice and easy to use.

My recommendation, start checking the magazine racks. There are lots of magazines on digital camera reviews. Here are some good ones to begin with: "What Digital Camera" (same company that publishes "What Hi-Fi"), "e DigitalPhoto.com" (they also have a website: www.edigitalphoto.com) and "Digital Camera User". There are a lot more, but I like "What Digital Camera" because of the reviews.
I should also recommend that you shop around very carefully as there are tremendous price differences. There are some great deals on online outlets compared to retail stores. I bought my Fujifilm FinePix 4900 Zoom from Digital Distribiutors, Inc. for a savings of $200.00. After reading the magazine reviews first, and deciding which would be best for me.
Good Luck.

Why not try a new/old idea? Buy a good traditional camera. Instead of having the film developed and then prints made you could have a CD made with the PICs on it. This way you can print out wonderful prints on your printer and you could also send PICs on the Internet as well. You get the best of both worlds for less $$.
