I am using windows 2000. I recently (Monday, 19 June 2006, 7:54:50 PM)downloaded some sort of upgrade to Windows media player- now when I use it, I get sound only and the computer freezes up- even control alt delete, doesn't work, so I have to switch the whole thing off.
Can anyone sugget a cure for this? I am thinking of ditching it ..but not sure what else to get for that matter.
cheers
Steve

Ahh, the "media player needs a new codec" scam. You're infected. It's the latest Java hack. My son got it on his gaming machine. We booted in Safe Mode and deleted the Java folder and the folder that was installed by the virus (can't remember it's name, but you're anti virus software has probably been telling you what folder the .exe files that keep launching are in - that's the one)

Then download a clean copy of Java.
