I have been looking for weeks and really don't want to spend as much as a $1000, but I also don't want a machine that will burn my or her legs and last for only 2 hours per charge. The best rec so for is a refurbished IBM Notebook. My wife's needs will probably need some graphics capability.

Norm,

Graphics are best on a mac so is music. So why spend hours fixing windows problems and dealing with viruses.

Why not get the best for what you are looking for and get an iBook for $999 new from MacMall with all kinds of free stuff.

Thanks, what I have on my audio system.

Gordon's right and yes, you can get an ibook for under a grand. For a basic use - internet, audio, photos - mac is the way to go. You won't have to worry about spyware and viruses, either. Mac sounds much better for audio too.

I agree, but I do have these Windows only programs, posted on November 29, 2005 at 17:07:30

One is for the Halcyonic isolation platform and another is for room acoustics. My wife's is for quilt designs and another for pattern for embroidery designs.

Do Dell hold up for long? Our computer lab has many broken Dells awaiting pickup by surplus. Few if any still run. Gateways seem to last longer. I should say that I have no personal experience and that these machines receive harsh treatment by students.
