I am looking for a small, inexpensive, used outboard for my Porta-Bote (don't laugh, please ;-) I'm new to outboards, and in doing a little research it seems like the 3 hp Gamefisher is a decent one: air cooled, twist throttle, less than 25 lbs. And a number seem to be available on places like eBay at good prices. Can anyone give me any additional info or opinions? I know Gamefishers were made for Sears by a variety of manufacturers. Were the 3 hp models made by Tanaka? They appear to be very similar to the Tanaka TOB 300.
Thanks for whatever info anyone can share.

I will give you a little advise, don't buy a Gamerfisher outboard. I bought a used 7.5 hp Gamefisher that was almost brand new. I had nothing but problems with it, to top this off a small rubber piece in the carb. split open, when I went to Sears to get a replacement part, I was informed that they had discontinued the fabrication of Gamefisher motors and parts. I looked every where and could not find the part. I finally had to buy another motor (Johnson 6.5) and I gave the Gamefisher motor to a friend that fixes motors for parts. I was out of $350.00 that I had paid for the motor, plus all the hard times it gave me.Buy a small Johnson motor, they are pretty good and there are parts for them everywhere.
Actually Sears still carries parts for the Gamefisher. Did you actually call them? I ordered parts for one today
