I am currently trying to get my fathers 1968 3.9hp Mercury outboard motor back in running order. It is hard starting and since the breaker points and condensor have not been changed since 1974 I will change them. Does anyone else know much about these motors and how to remove the flywheel etc. What about the carburetor(it is a Tillitson) should I touch it at all?? I replaced the impeller in the waterpump so far and it definitely was worn out. I would appreciate any tips that anyone has. I just wanted to get the old motor going again. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I could get Sierra aftermarket parts for the 3.9hp Mercury 39 outboard and if they are available in Canada. I know the Sierra parts numbers are: breaker points #18=5140
condensor #18=5212
Carburetor kit #18=7013
Otherwise I guess I will have to order them from a dealer in United States. Thanks
Derek
