Hi,I have an older 9.9 hp gamefisher that will not start. It has been in storage for awhile but the engine turns over. It will run on starter fluid sprayed into the carb but it wont sustain it for more than a few seconds. The spark plugs were just replaced, so I think it is the carburetor. Does anyone know of something that could cause the engine to do this? And if it is the carburetor or something else than do you know of any places online to look for parts or find information like the year number. Also I know that sears does not make them but who does? thanks alot please respond

You need to dissasemble the carb and clean it really good. Probably just gummed up with varnish from sitting. Your 9.9 was probably made by force marine. depending on the year. parts are available from Most Mercury /force dealers or napa marine parts division
I just worked on a briggs that had been sitting for years. It had the same exact problem. I would only run if you sprayed "fuel" into the carb air intake. In the case the gas tank was full of rust and the fuel intake probe that went inside the gas tank was plugged at the end (it had a screen that was clogged). I put pool acid in the tank, swished it around for a few minutes then drained and rinsed. Then cut off the screen and replaced it with a small generic fuel filter. It worked great, maybe you should try that before taking the carb apart.
fishinfreak,The place for you to get parts is Certified Parts Corp. 1-800-356-0777. You can call and ask for Vern with technical questions. This company bought Eska back in the 80's. These outboards were made with Tecumseh motors. I hope that this info can help you.
The motor is starving for gas. Check for dirt in the carb, blocked jets maybe. The float may also be stuck. These motors are known for carb problems.
i bought a carb rebuild kit and will hope for the best. The person said that it sounded like the fuel element pump broke.
