Went skiing this weekend and after 3 days and 15 tries, I couldn't get up out of the water. I weigh 229 (5'10) and the boat was an 1983 100hp Sea Ray... I'm a great skier or least I was 10 years ago in my 175 -185 lb days... what gives? Was the boat underpowered?

I can relate.Did you try with 2 skis? Significantly less hp is required using 2 skis. 100 horses ought to be plenty that way, but I'm not surprised you struggled if you were going slalom.
Also, a special prop, sized and pitched to maximize the boat for skiing, can help dramatically. Specifically, it will have less pitch, which reduces top speed, but improves the hole-shot.
