I'm using a Olympus 360L to take pics in 1.3 mpix and then shrink them to under 300k each. Will I get better pics if I use a camera with higher resolution and shrink them to the same size?
Follow Ups:
I just sold my 360 after using it for about a year.Time to upgrade. It's a great BASIC camera. And for pictures on ebay,it's more than adequate.Just use the software to reduce picture size.Click on "image" and look for "resize".You may need to experiment a little to see what effect resizing has on file size.If you have general photographic skills and remember to apply them and are familiar with the controls/options on this camera, you should get excellent pictures. The biggest problem with the pictures I see on ebay, seems to be with lighting.I've gotten into setting smaller objects on a white towel. It has some reflective quality, but not in a harsh manner, because of the terry cloth.Works nicely with fill flash when working indoors with available daylight.Be careful of color balance when working in other lighting conditions.
A shot for sales ought to be in the 640x480 range in terms of pixels.Anything much biggerw ill be 'majorly annoying' to load, and you can probably, with a good jpeg encoder, get that down to under 50k.
So, any camera that does 1280x1024 should give you that after a reduce by 2 and an unsharp mask, followed by a jpeg at level 4 or so (of 10).
That, perhaps with some saturation increase ^U in Photoshop/LE, or some colour balance ^B if needed, should do very well.
