It comes from the area just south of Lake Garda. It is one of the few whites in Italy that is barrel aged and can take it. It ages well in the bottle for a few years, but not too many.
Hi jimbill,
I am living on the Italian east coast ( Ancona ).
On the hills ( 20 miles from Ancona )the white wine " Balciana " 1997 got the white wine trophy 1999 ( International wine
challenge ) as best white in the world.
That wine is 100% cultivar Verdicchio.
Greetings from Italy
Franco
Try some whites from producers like Jermann, Regaleali, Gravner, Bellavista, and Gaja. All pretty expensive but definitely aren't anything like a Pinot Grigio. On the cheaper side I have found some producers of Arneis, Soave, Gavi, etc to put out serious efforts that can be pretty good.
