Anyone ever actually sampled these legendary wines from the Rhone valley? As a wine amateur, I read many years ago where these white reislings were exceptional! IF i can recall, the "Trockenbeerenslause" is a "Beerenslause" wine that has the "noble rot" and as such,is premium vintage.Any wine snobs out there to comment on this?

Follow Ups:
I've had them both over the years. Very intense wines. Sweet, but like sauternes, shouldn't be cloying. The great thing about them is the tremendous varieties of flavors you will experience, sip by sip. I've had very few other wines with the complexity and long finish of these wines. You might want to try an auslese eiswein first. Much of the complexity but slightly less sweet."Acres Verde" is correct in that a little goes a long way. But because of their high sugar content they will last quite a while in the refrigerator after being opened.
By the way, they're not from the Rhone valley in France. They're German wines, typically from the Mosel or Rhein areas.

I bought a 750 ml bottle of Trocken about 30 years ago (today many are found as 375 ml). It was the real deal and aet me back a cool cnote even then. Two of us and our dates sat down one fine Saturday evening to partake (as an aperitif) and two hours after the first pour, my typically oh-so-arid stem was still half full. Talk about cloying and power-packed...it was like drinking white wine concentrate. It wasn't off-putting, rather it was so intense and mouth filling that a tiny sip would just wash through you like a grape tsunami. Four of us barely put a dent in it that eve but it certainly was an eye-opener and I'm glad for having given it a shot but , ultimately, it was just too much and too sweet for my tastes.
YMMV

Thank you very much. I really enjoyed that review. Especially the cataclysmic nature of the taste, bud!
