Hi,I'm from Australia, but at one of the Wine Bars I went to in Melbourne 4 years ago, I had a straight merlot from Washington (I never pictured Washington as a wine region..)
It was the best merlot I've ever had and I've spent the past 4 years trying every merlot I can get my hands on to try and equal it.
I forgot its name, but the memory has reached mythical status in my head now, and the quest continues to try and find it. I THINK it had a mostly white label :)
Any suggestions/weblinks ? Is there a particular merlot which Washington is renowned for ?
Regards,

Ch. Ste. Michelle, Canoe Ridge or one of their other single vineyards. Their Cabs are equally as excellent.
Daniel,
Don't worry, Washington wine is a secret even here in the US! Most folks don't realize that Eastern WA has a desert like climate...very warm summers, very long days, cool nights. It's not unusual to kick rolling sagebrush out of your way during harvest!Check out the link below...you'll find a list of almost every winery in the state with a pic of their label. Four years ago, probably a third of these wineries didn't even exist!
If you can't find the wine, I can happily recommend some good ones. Earlier this year I had a 1999 (great year here) Pepperbridge Merlot that changed my perception of how good Merlot could be.

Walla Walla,

Mostly white label? Could be Kiona, in Benton City, WA. They export a little to Britain, so maybe to Aus too. Excellent red wines there.
