I'm a Zin lover - any current releases you like I should try?
Thanks,
Mike

Follow Ups:
We are always fans of Storybook Mountain. At the stores you can usually find just the Mayacamas Vineyard which is a big, jammy zin. Available only at the winery or by shipping is their Eastern Exposure - blended with a touch of Viognier that makes it very interesting, or their extremely smooth Estate. Jerry Seps is one of the founders of ZAP and a great winemaker. At the recent harvest dinner they opened magnums of their first release, the 1983, and it was amazing.

ridge, rombauer, ravenwood, rosenbloom... just kidding, though there is some truth there.one i'm liking a lot, if you like big jam style, is boeger el dorado county (CA) zin, and i'm not sure of the vintage, off hand. they also make a 'walker vinyard' zin. also good.

My recomendation is: DON'T DRINK IT. Why not buy one of the very nice "real" reds, instead?

Whoa, what the hell has he been drinking? Zinfandel isn't a real red? That's news to me.

LOL...that reminds me of the time that I was at Spago waiting for a table with my boss and a bigtime client. One wanted a Chard and one wanted a zin. I told the bartender who gave me a huge attitude and said, "Sir, we don't have any white zinfandel at Spago." My response was, "Gee they make it in white too?"Maybe we should split the political map into "red zin" states and "white zin" states. My vote goes to Raffanelli which is dark enough to use for solar eclipse viewing. ;>

Try the heritage clone from Dry Creek Vinyards. The dry creek appelation produces some delightful wines that wont break the bank.

like Rafanelli - I'm on their mailing list and get a case every year. Highly recommended. I've had some good Dry Creek Winery Zins in the past, especially thier Reserve. I will look for their Heritage Clone. Sounds like a biotech wine...

Mike

The current Wine Spectator , May 15, 2004
features Zin's. I am drinking the Rancho Zabaco
as I type this. It is about $11 a bottle.

Tried the Rancho Zabaco reserve. I wasn't too impressed. I think I may have opened it too soon however. One wine that is simply dynamite however is Zin Alley. A small CA Central coast vintner that makes a dynamite zin. 40 bucks a bottle, and worth every penny.
Rodney Strong Twisted Vines Zin...But we picked that'n out in a blind testing, so y'all probably think we missed somethin

from Costco and really liked Cline's Ancient Vines 2002. I'll look for the Rodney Strong.

Mike
