What do you think of their ratings and commentary?

Interesting reading, but wine tasting is subjective; use it as a guide. Hint: Plenty of wines out there under $15 that can't be beat unless you spend mega-bucks. Not that much difference from $15 - $30.

If you're really interested in wine, you can't not read Wine Spectator. Very educational. Their ratings are pretty good, but like audio or anything else, you have to factor in your own personal preferences. It's interesting that a WS rating of 90pts will make a wine sell out where an 89pt rating might not. So you can't take the ratings - point by point - too seriously.

Mike

I think their 100 point rating system is a little silly - I mean, how can you have an absolute rating on something so objective? But, their tasting notes are nice and can usually tell me if a particular wine is one I might want to invetigate myself. And their articles on the industry, and related items are often interesting.
