I had Viognier for the first time in a restaurant recently (with an Asian-style lobster dish), and was swept away. Does anyone know of a cheese or two that mates well with this wine? I've bought some from California--haven't tried Condrieu yet, although I'm dying to.

This significantly increases pleasure. Also make sure the red isn't too warm, if it is a hot day.

We had glasses of Alban Viognier last evening with an appetizer of asparagus and brie cheese. It was excellent. I'd recommend a baked brie, or at the very least room temperature. The combination was really good together.

If you speak french, there is a french Website (http://cepage.75cl.com) talking about all grapes variety whtite and red. For each one, there are explanations: where you can find it, it's place is some wine regions or wine as component of wines with other grape variety. They also recommend you some food to eat with it and cheese (French one of course...)http://cepage.75cl.com/viognier.htm
If you want a translation you can ask me I'll do my best with my poor English. For cheese they recommend Goat cheese (dry are better with this wine) or some strong cheese like "Reblochon" Personnaly, I think you can also try a blue cheese like Roquefort or Blue Stilton. This wine is also very good with Foie Gras and some sweets or cakes with roasted almonds.
Enjoy your Viognier

Thanks. Just had some with a piece of Pecorino Romano. Very, very nice. Brought out the sweetness in the Viognier. The fragrance stays with you the whole night.
