I’ve been out of wine press reading for some time, but once I send the wife and kids off to Florida, I have time to listen to music and enjoy a little wine. A thread down below reminded me about looking for some drinkable ’96 Bordeaux.Any suggestions under $50, alternatively as I used to be a Rhone fan anything good lurking in the shelves of NYC Wine stores?
Follow Ups:
I walked in a few days before Christmas and saw that they have a few bottles from 1989 & 88. I have always fallen back on Talbot in times of need. But the prices for other things! Ten years ago, when I gave up the idea of wine collecting I bought a bottle of Haut-Brion '83 (one of the best '83s) for $75, and it still remains one of the best bottles that I have ever finished off by myself. HB '90; $450, HB '89: $675. Granted both these years are considered better than '83, (the '82 was maybe $125 then). But wow that tells me not to expect that much from the Talbot.Anyway hunting is half the fun.
The '96s I would be looking at would not be the top tier wines. But for the price it still makes sense to buy ol' Talbot.
Thanks for the advice.
I didn't read whatever posts to which you refer, but I wonder why a '96 to drink this season? Lesser wines are ready, better wines should still be held.I would recommend to the 1997 vintage. A lesser vintage all around, but all that means is that the better wines are drinking well early.
Both are around 40-50/bottle
Particularly in New York, one may be hard-pressed to find these wines close to $50 let alone under.Have you any particular locations in mind, where the wine is available for this kind of money?
Are you sure of this price in New York because this French wine is very much expensive in France (93¤ at this time 115$) more than twice. http://search.kelkoo.fr/b/a/ss_calon_segur.html
