Penfolds bin 28 shiraz, it rated high in wine spectator. I had the chance to get a bottle just before christmas. I have to say it is the best Shiraz I have tried for the money. It sells from 17.00-23 in the Gulfcoast area if you can find it. My boss was in NOLA over the holidays & she said Martins Wine Cellar had stock left. I prefer to pay around 8-12 for a bottles, I realize it limits me, but it is in my budget.

There are lots of very decent wines to be found in this price range, but I find there are lots of disappointments too. One of my arguments has always been that I am less disappointed by a disappointing $6 bottle than one at twice the price.
Budgets are budgets. Even at $8 a day you spend $3,000 annually on wine. I often go over budget, but that's why I buy a lot of $5-7 wines, to allow me to spend $15-30 on occasion.
I think you can do very well in Spain and Italy at this price range.
