Well, we have read the newspaper stories of this mysterious vintage, (LA Times on Saturday) and how this pricey tasting wine is selling for $1.98 bottle. No Trader Joes near me, but I foudn three cases in the market, at $1.98 bottle. Is it any good? Is it worth $20 a bottle as the Times implied? AFter dinner, I will post the taste tests.
Follow Ups:
it really tastes like ass
I finally tried these. My humble opinions:The Merlot was pretty harsh and nasty - alcoholic finish and BOLD taste. The Sauv Blanc and the Chardonnay were way too sweet for my tastes. The Cab - oh the Cab. The 2000 Cab is OK to good. The 99 Cab (if you can still find any) is VERY, VERY good and a bargain even if it were around $8-$10.
I bought one case of the 99 Cab. If I could find more I would buy 4 or 5 cases, it's that good.
is what they are calling it. Grapes are bought on the overflow market to to the massive glut
What vintage? is it vintage wine? What country is it from? How much did/will you buy?
It's made at a mass production swillery in Ceres, Ca.

Call me a wine snob but I would have been scared to drink something that cheap. The world's not a safe place these days.
