Wine Asylum

I just moved up here to Brooklyn and was wondering if anyone knew of any wine/liquor stores who regularly put on wine tastings. Where we moved from there was an international wine center which had a wine tasting the 3rd Thursday of every month. I am in my mid-20s and somewhat new to the world of wine, but am excited to learn more about it. These wine tastings provided me an excellent opportunity to familiarize myself with brands and varietals that I might not otherwise select.

Slightly off subject, but I also was wondering if there are any beer festivals that go on up here. Once again, Spfd, MO where I moved from put on a Beerfest every spring and it was quite an event. I am a big fan of the whole micro-brew movement going on as well as import beers. It has gotten to the point where I can barely drink the mainstream brands (i.e. Bud, Miller, & Coors). They taste so empty. Anyway, all help is greatly appreciated.
