Anyone had this latest release? I'd love to know your thoughts since I ordered two cases for my wedding. Dugh!
Follow Ups:
I have a Ridge tasting scheduled for either next week or the following. I'll post more after I've had a chance to compare and contrast. Reports are favorable. The vintage is incredible and the Sonoma Station, its previous incarnation, was always my favorite of their many wines.
Regards,
SeanTwo cases? Must be a small wedding. Either that, or your friends don't drink like I do.
Oh, don't say that! I have 150 people. I figure with 2 cases that'll be about 120 glasses, enough for 50 people (33%)to have about 2 1/2 glasses each. I do have beer, liquor, and white wine. Maybe I do need another couple cases. Damn!
Wow, I'm really confused. I've tried the Lytton Springs and Sonoma Station, but Lytton Station is a new one. Looked at their website and they list it, though the description is for Sonoma Station. Geyserville and Lytton Springs are two of my favorite zins.
I believe it was a simple name change to infer more vineyard specific fruit. Sonoma, I think, sounded to general to them. It should be the same wine in almost every respect.
So the confirmation is in. A large portion of the Zinfandel fruit used in the Sonoma Station is coming from the Lytton Springs vineyard. Ridge must be producing more on the property since they bought it in 92 (I think it was 92?). The only one I have tasted so far is the Lytton Springs. It is really tightly wound, one to lay down for a couple of years at least. Lots of stewed cherries and plums with some tobacco and a substantial pepper element. I could be imagining it, but I found a vague nuttyness to the vanilla notes in this vintage. Anyhow, as I remember it, the Sonoma was always a more quaffable style. I think it will be a huge hit!!!
