Re: Build your own trailer

I built one when I was 16 with minimal tools and only one trip to a friend with a welder. I used an old straight axle from a half ton pick up. 4x4 hard wood for the tongue. Elm was bought from a local saw mill and built a frame with it. Bolted the frame together. It was a 4x8 rectangle and the tongue bolted to it. bolted a sheet of 3/4 exterior plywood to that. Bought a hitch from a local hardware. I see K-Mart sells them and lights from the local auto parts store. A friend welded the spindles on the axle for me. It cost me $50.00 back then. Should be able to build it for less then $200.oo now depending on your scavenging skills. I used it for 8 years hauling my 10 foot Jon boat and towed it at highway speeds. Good Luck.
