Has anyone ever built their own jon boat trailer? $500+ for a new one stinks if you bought a used jon boat for $100 and a used motor for $300. I do not know how to weld. Wondering if anyone knows of a bolt together kit or plans to build one from scratch.
Follow Ups:
I built one when I was 16 with minimal tools and only one trip to a friend with a welder. I used an old straight axle from a half ton pick up. 4x4 hard wood for the tongue. Elm was bought from a local saw mill and built a frame with it. Bolted the frame together. It was a 4x8 rectangle and the tongue bolted to it. bolted a sheet of 3/4 exterior plywood to that. Bought a hitch from a local hardware. I see K-Mart sells them and lights from the local auto parts store. A friend welded the spindles on the axle for me. It cost me $50.00 back then. Should be able to build it for less then $200.oo now depending on your scavenging skills. I used it for 8 years hauling my 10 foot Jon boat and towed it at highway speeds. Good Luck.
Take a look at Glen L They have a boat trailer construction book and plans...
