...the name makes me think of Martin Short's Franck, the wedding planner, in Father of the Bride.Six of us blind tasted six cab francs (the wine you liked best gets one point, wine you liked least gets six points).
6. 2012 Lang & Reed North Coast $20 - 32pts
5. 2012 Easton Amador $24 - 24pts
4. 2012 Reynolds $50 - 24 pts
3. 2012 Terraces $50 - 22 pts
2. 2012 Writer's Block (Steele 2nd label) $17 - 15pts (BevMo)
1. 2012 Steele $18 - 12 pts
The two inexpensive Steele's ran away with it. I've been to their winery near Clearlake and they are pretty much all good wines for the money - I particularly like their chardonnay and a couple of their zins.
Next month - Australian Shiraz.

Syrah from Australia is one category I just can't be excited about (like the rest of the world apparently) but an Australian gentleman was in my tasting room a few years ago and explained that not all Syrahs are over ripe and over alcoholic. That I should be looking not at McLaren Vale but at older regions (which of course all escape me now) I do remember that I found some on K and L at the time. Might be interesting to go ask about. I would hope they would be interesting and different.

As far as over ripe/fully ripe, extracted, high alcohol. Of course, that is just my opinion.
A lot of the Australian wineries are starting to move away from this model because it's been done, again my opinion. Molly Dooker and a few others are staying put.
Mike, which ones did you get? Haven't been to BevMo in a year but last time I was there I wasn't a fan of their selection.
...don't recall the specifics but one was a Yalumba, a Jim Barry Lodge Hill and Layer Cake. The Yellowtail was the only drinkable one.
Tasting is Thursday.

Yalumba makes a good Grenache called "Old Bush".
Just had a bottle of Mollydooker "The Maitre D". Very nice and readily available here.Don't like Layer Cake. Had the Barry in the past but don't remember it.
I bought Two Hands in Monterey last year so it should be available. Try K and L.

...Safeway had a few including a Rosemount - that's where I picked up the Yellowtail.Costco usually has one but they were out.
I'm bringing the Yellowtail ($5.50) to the tasting (88pts WS).
Someone else is bringing a $5 Lindeman Bin 50 that got 87pts in WS.

Will it be a blind tasting?

...I haven't paid much attention to it either which is why I thought it was a good suggestion for our tasting.
When I was in Australia last year we took a Hunter Valley wine tour and tasted some very good shiraz.
So in preparation for this month's tasting I picked up 4 bottles at BevMo to try.
Kind of disappointing since only the least expensive one was decent.
