...Trader Joes does it again.
"VINTJS" North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (red label with gold lettering) @ $7.95 is supposedly BR Cohn's Silver Label Cab which they also sell for $14.95. It's an excellent every day cab.
"Tribunal" Red Wine blend @ $9.95 is apparently made to mimic the flavor profile of Orin Swift's "The Prisoner" which goes for $30. This one is even better than the VINTJS.
My local TJs also has more of the big "C" on a white label 2009 cabernet @ $19.95 (supposedly Pine Ridge cab) which scored third place in our recent cab tasting.

I'm always ahead of the curve. lol
In 1985, I was buying Ch. Monbousquet St. Emilion for $10. It was my go-to Bordeaux to have with steaks.
Now, sit down...
The other day, I was in a discount liquor store and checked it out. Drum roll, please:
$75!
I looked it up online, and see U.S. prices from $38 to $80. This is nuts! If I could order a couple bottles at $38 from the California supplier and not have to pay CA sales tax or shipping, I would, but that ain't gonna happen. So long, Monbousquet!
The plummet of the U.S. Dollar might play a role, but still, it's interesting that Mouton Cadet (admittedly a low end Bordeaux) is still $9 as it has been for at least 20 years, and several of the $10 Beaujolais are also still $10-$12 over the past 20 years (Deboeuf, Jadot, etc.).
My theory is that pricing is largely based on what the market will bear, rather than any particular production costs or currency exchange rates.
:)
TJ's also has a Sicilian red wine for about $5, which you'd swear is $15. Can't think of the exact name right off, but it's an Archeo brand and made with Nero d'Avola grapes.
:)
Like yourself, I think it's an excellent every day cab and a great value. Thanks for the recommendation.
