...our wine tasting group, 6 tasters, blind tasted 6 zins, including Frog's Leap, Grgich Hills, Storybook and Rafanelli, mostly around $30.The surprising winner was the Rosenblum Vinter's Cuvee XXXIII at about $10, a ringer someone brought for fun.
The Rafanelli, my favorite, scored 2nd place, one point behind.
Check out the Rosenblum, at a third the price of the others.

...putting it in a bag might improve it.
I've been a fan of some of Rosenblum's zins over the past 20 years, Harris Kratka for example, but many are a little too fruit forward for me.
At his quarterly open houses they would pour about 30 wines in all, maybe a third zins.
Now he's sold to Diageo for $200 million and left, helping his daughter at Rockwall nearby.
So this year's Vintners Cuvee tasted surprisingly well balanced, especially at the price.
all things equal, there's a rule of thumb for you.
Hey Mike... I scored a vinotech cabinet on closeout price at costco not long ago. now that it's getting hot here in Sac, time to move the vino... first I have to clear a spot where the wife can live with it. I noticed you have a cabinet in your garage. I don't think I can get away with that in Sacramento. too hot here. Those cabinets are not designed to work in 110F... !
here's a tip for you: Woot.com has a case of pedroncelli mixed bag on sale today only for $99 + $5 shipping. One of the pedroncelli's is an acquaintance here, and it's good wine anyhow. Dry Creek area. hope it's not cooked or something... if so, I'll be talking to my buddy Ped !
...here gets hot in the summer for my cooler as well but I have no room in the house.
In the summer evenings I open up the garage doors for a while to cool it down.
It's supposed to keep the wine at least 30 degrees the ambient temp. At 110 degrees, 80's not bad.
Thanks for the Woot tip - I have a moratorium on buying new wine unless I love it until I clear some serious room in the vinotech.
