The fellow I deal with at JJBuckley supplies me ample deals and some gems as well in daily emailings, but it's not a wine of the month kind of setup persay. The daily/weekly deals are fantastic and there's always at least one, if not multiple private client priced deals each week on a huge variety of wines. I buy most of my bulk wine from these guys.
We belong to the bi-annual shipment club from Brutocao Cellars in Anderson Valley. Their wines are low priced and good value. Their Merlot, Pinot and Italian red varietals cellar well for 4-8 years typically. We've had many a steak on the grill paired with one of their "aged" Merlot's. Give them some cellar time and the simple can become very pleasant.
Bill, you mention Roessler...I bought a case of their 2007 pinot's, three different ones and they are quite special. Still have half of them laying down here.
Best,
Mike
Follow Ups:
I've enjoyed their wines for the past few years. They recently sold to a bigger company. Here's hoping it doesn't affect the quality for the worse.
Had their latest "Peregrin". Excellent for the price.
They are one of the wineries where I differed on the reviews from WS. I poured a '07 "Gap's Crown" and it was widely praised by my guests. WS gave it an 84, which is usually swill.
...I've probably related this here before.
I used to order 6 bottles of Downing Family Fly by Night Napa zinfandel every year.
I think it was the 2003 vintage they rated in 2005.
In the comprehensive WS zinfandel ratings it was way, way down at the bottom with 63 points. They said the tried more than one bottle.
I have never seen a wine score that low before or since then.
Yet it was one of my favorite zins that year.
Go figure.
