...4. Gloria Ferrar 2006 Carneros - had some off flavors that made my wife say, "Hated it."
3. Macrostie 2006 Carneros - at $16.99 this was the most expensive with the rest all going for $12.99 - a liitle oily at first, when it warmed up it was more balanced with fruit and tasted ok.
2. Chateau Michelle Indian Wells 2006 Columbia Valley, Washington - very nice and balanced but lighter, with hints of cinnamon and fruit.
1. Acacia 2006 Carneros - the winner from the first round, by default, does it again. Not a great chardonnay, but still our favorite of them all. Buttery, fruity, pretty well balanced. Maybe it will improve with a few months of bottle ageing.
None of these are as good as they've been at this price range in other years.
No Sterling or Souverain available.
I'm tempted to splurge and pay $20 for the Ferrari Carano to have a really good house chardonnay for the summer. Or maybe just keep some on hand for entertaining.
Life's too short to drink cheap wine, so they say...

Have you tried the Kim Crawford Unoaked Chardonnay?
(nt)
Make that Villa Maria "Unoaked" Chardonnay.
Actually, Kim Crawford does make an unoaked chardonnay. And it is quite good.
Not as crazy as I thought I was.
Not bad. Similar to the Sterling. Both are low cost, decent wines. Good for the price but just that.
...Souverain 2007 90 points. (I believe the 2004 was our house wine that summer.)
And they gave three of the Siduri Willamette Valley pinots 92 points.
Really liking the Sonoma Coast pinot. Killer for $20. My only mistake was not ordering a case. I also tried the first bottle of the St. Rita Hills pinot. Very close to the Sonoma Coast, maybe a bit more acidic.
I still haven't tried the Parson's.
My Wife has become a big fan now. She likes to point it out when we serve it to friends.
Your comments raise an interesting, albeit, obvious point. The more I'm exposed to better wines the less tolerable I am of lesser ones that I would quite enjoy once upon a time.I happened upon a Rodney Strong Chardonnay at the sale price of $9.95.Great value, nice wine.
