~2 years ago, I stumbled across a new book by an author of whom I'd never heard.
The author's name was Stieg Larrson
The title of the book? The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
After a thoroughly enjoyable read I leapt at the keyboard and invoked the the dark lord, Google, to track down this author in order to find out what else he had written.
Oh woe! Stieg Larrson WAS a full-time journalist before he died. Also before he died, he tried his hand at being a part-time author and only managed to write three novels before departing for journalist heaven.
None of these novel were published until after his death and then the fornicating publishers decided, for the English market, to drag out the releases to one per year - to be released in time for Christmas.
Late 2009, the third and final novel was released.
I have all three and can strongly recommend them!!!
1) The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
2) The Girl Who Played With Fire
3) The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest
This has, for me, been the most significant book discovery of the last 10 years!!

Follow Ups:
I did the same thing. I bought The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo as an Amazon.com recommendation and loved it. I immediately searched for his other works and discovered the rest of the story. Very tragic. I read that he died of a heart attack after climbing 7 flights of stairs to get to his office since the elevator was broken.
I haven' read the others yet, I'm waiting for the paperbacks. Are they as good as the first one?
I kinda got bogged down in # 3 as the Sweedish names all started running together ;->
Nevertheless, an excellent ending to a great tale!
"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
...just finished the third one.
A very satisfying ending to the trilogy in spite of the names.
