Jeez, there are so many, but mostly (as the last post notes) far from California. Do yourself a favor and head for France's Loire valley. Especially Vouvrays: try the modestly priced Domaine de Vaufuget (classic sweet/juicy-acidy Vouvray) or the (atypically) elegant, a bit more expensive, Domaine Coteau de la Biche. And so many more--ask your favorite wine guy. AND--Montlouis, across the river from Vouvray. There, you can't do better than Deletang--I recommend cuvee "Les Batisses," 1997, if you can find it. Chenin rules!
