I've got a Nikon N55 that I've been very happy with, but for one problem. It's only a few months old, but the flash will no longer fire. It acts normally except for that the metering and shutter times behave as if the flash is working, but the flash will not not work. On the plus side, I have had quite a bit of fun with available light. I really don't want to ship the camera to NYC for warranty service and be without it forever. Does anybody have any suggestions? I assume that it is the bulb, though I can't be sure. Is the bulb cheap and/or easy to replace myself? Short of self-repair, does anyone know of a good shop in the Western NY area (Erie/Niagara Counties)? TIA for the help.

If you can't take it back to where you purchased it for a replacement, then I see no self repair.A technician should look at it.Does it pop up when ready ,but no flash goes off?I see it has a hot shoe on the top for another Nikon dedicated Flash.Maybe a brand like Sunpak has an inexpensive one.
If you read below our post on Bounce Flash.Used to get a better quality of light by tilting the flash head toward a ceiling. You would appreceiate another flash atop your camera.Just trying to help a newbie advance in his shooting.
Have you tried replacing the battery as it takes less current to trip the shutter than the flash takes.
Thanks for the ideas, but the batteries have been replaced, and yes the flash does pop up.
