I took this shot at a friends wedding (they had a really real photographer there, so my shots aren’t important) I got this one as they took the vows & I like the look on her face(you know pretending she loves him) But I found the background distracting. I've zapped it with Photoshop & can't seem to get it right. Any ideas anyone?

Rod, the last one is the best treatment. Next time try and use a wide apperture if that is possible on your camera, this will throw the distracting background out of focus.

And does that buy me a night with the bride?Ok, I'll settle for a case.

imho...if you want to portray an image of the wedding and mark the moment, then #1 -- i think the "all eyes on the bride" from the background people adds to the emotion of the moment.
if your going for an image of a beautiful lady, then #3 or #5.
the effect on #4, however, is quite strong and bizarre! like, "what are these weirdos in the back looking at and why are they even here?"

The background figures seem distracting so the less you have of them seems all the better. No. 3 might seem a littly hoky, with what seems to be light rays immenating from her, it makes her look like an angle or the Virgin Mary, so if that bothers you then No. 5 might be preferable. Why not just a simple black backround, to me, that would be the best, or you might experiment with a white background if you think black is too gloomy. The bride is very beutiful, and that is where all the attention should be placed.

I would try to remember to shoot wide open with my Hassy. That meant 2.8 with the 80mm or f/4 with the 150mm. To blow out the background(out of focus). But in any case the Bride sometimes apprecieated seeing her friends expressions, behind her.BTW great expression!!! In the wedding biz the term "Expression Sells" was our motto. All young brides are in LOVE. you fool....
I really dig shot 3 (so angelic) and shot 5 has that 5x5 square Hassy look.
Now today with photoshop, I see that you are good at outlining the bride and veil cutout. I would try to use Gaussian Blur in filters under Blur. It has the feel of shooting with lens wide open.
Clic on it a box opens choose preview and slide bar to right changing the radius to something natural. Thats it!!!
Make sure the Bride sees your shot I'm sure she is going to love it.
