Beyond running adware, spybot, and spysweeper (have to pay) I've noticed that when you go to your internet explorer options, click on programs tab, then manage Add-ons, if you see something that you can't identify, wipe it out. Sometimes that helps, but usually the spyware is embedded in more than one way.
Follow Ups:
I don't see "manage Add-ons" on i.e.options programs tab or anywhere else. Where is it?
Under "Tools": Mail and News, Synchronize, Windows Update, Show Related Links, Reset Web Settings, Internet Options (nothing else)
Sounds like you might be using earlier versions, in which case you should update, but...
Anyway, a good site is: http://www.annoyances.org/, but you'll need to put up with a little geekiness!
