Probably all you need to do is hit F1 (or F2 - I'm not sure of the difference), go into the system's BIOS setup and then do a 'Save Settings' or 'Save Configuration' or something similar. No need to actually do anything in the BIOS setup - the BIOS just needs to have the new memory settings saved in its nonvolatile memory.I don't think many newer BIOS's require this but it was common in the old days.
Test by restarting the system and seeing if the message goes away.

ugh.
Make certain that you actually save the configuration. Some of the BIOS dialogs can be confusing - you choose to Save (often by hitting F10, but it should be shown pretty clearly on screen) and then a dialog box appears with a default answer of 'No' - to _not_ save. Newer BIOS tend to be more logical; you choose 'Save' and the dialog box asking if you're sure has a default answer of 'Yes'.What is the make/model of the computer or the motherboard?
When I exit out of the "Setup" screen it asks me if I want to save the changes and I click "Yes". My computer is a recent Dell: 2.8GHz, 2002 version of XP Pro. w/ Service Pack 2 installed. I don't know what the motherboard is. Yes, my computer recognizes and says it has the extra memory I installed. Thanks for your continuing help.
