RE: Upgrading my PC - looking for advice.

I'd buy a new, inexpensive system instead. You should be able to get a nice speed boost over what you have without having to spend a bundle.

If you try to upgrade this one, you can run into power supply connector compatibility issues (both to the MB, and to the HDDs) and such that would require a decent bit of checking in advance.

All you'd be saving at that point would be the cost of the case, PS, and DVD drive. You can fill all that for $100 or, and move your harddrive to the new machine rather install fresh, if upgrading is the route you want to go.

If it were me, even on that I'd clone the drive to a new one instead, and keep my old PC as a backup until I was sure everything was safe, sound, and smooth.

Buying new is a more expensive route, but only slightly more expensive, and should save a lot of time. You should be able to get a decent AMD or Intel desktop for less than five hundred dollars delivered, and it would give you the most flexibility and performance, as well as two working systems at the end of the day.
