Any photo printer recs?

I am looking for a good quality, versatile photo printer in the less that $150 range. Tone quality is important, along with crisp detail and good color. But sharp text and graphics would be ideal and reflects the versatility I am looking for. The best solution for me (on the cheap) is a good, low volume graphic proofer that can do color stable photo prints when needed.
The Epsons and Canons top my short list because of separate color cartridges. The older Canons are being replaced with the Pixma line. The Epsons offer printable disc printing, which is novel.
Are there any stand out models in this price range? I'd appreciate any suggestions, TIA.
