Well, the first thing you should do is post some relevant information giving others a chance to trouble shoot. Here are a couple of questions:
1. Are you sure everything is properly and securely connected (including power)?
2. Does the HD show up in the BIOS?
3. Is the HD formatted?
4. Is this an IDE (or SATA) drive or is it an add-on drive using a USB or Firewire connection.
Explain what you see and what steps lead you to conclude it does not work.
