My PC died on me. My tech says he can't tell if it's the motherboard, processor, or both and suggests I buy a new computer. How can I determine if it's the motherboard, processor or both?

Of course it could be the Power supply - my first choice, followed by the motherboard. A processor problem is possibly but in my opinion not as likely as the other two items might be.

If you have no spare parts, it's difficult to know what the problem is but if this all started rather suddenly and you otherwise like the system you have, change the power supply. At least you can buy one of the new "quiet" units and if that's not the solution, it'll be the first part of your new system.

If you have never perused Newegg, it might be interesting just to take a look:
