My new Toshiba laptop went into hibernate mode. When I close the lid, then reopen it, a light flashes amber 8 times, then stops flashing. When I push the power on button, the same thing happens. How do I get it to start up from hibernate mode? TIA

That should restart it. Since it doesn't try this. Press and hold the power button until it shuts down completely, restart it and then reset the power mode to never shut of the hard drives. My IBM had the same problem and this solved it.

Good Luck

I tried that and it didn't work. Can I take the battery out, leave it our for awhile, then put it back it and try turning it on? Toshiba on-line support is down and getting into MSFT on Vista day isn't happening.

Yes, remove the battery and wait a few seconds. nt, posted on January 31, 2007 at 19:29:56
