His needs are modest. He only needs roughly 1.Ghz, 256MB memory, 10GB hard drive, CD-RW drive, McAfee or Norton anti-virus, Microsoft Office & maybe Windows 2000 or Windows ME. Anything over that is gravy. He probably should have a 17" monitor too. Any recommendations in where to search?

Dell had a system on sale for $500 or $600 with a free upgrade to a 15" flat panel which is about equivalent to a 17" regular monitor. I just checked, I guess that one ran out. Use the link on the support page. $499 with free shipping after rebate includes a 17" monitor. Add $50 for an extra 128MB to bring it up to 256MB.

Build It Yourself. For under $250 in parts you can build a nice little system (not including monitor) that will suit many needs. Also checkout the url for some very good ideas. Good luck.

why going to the hassle. It comes with everything you may need to grow. Even a burner of CD and DVD.

Hmmmmmmm.
Fuck Macs.

I could stop there, but I won't. Don't buy a mac.

Sure Microsofts products aren't the best, but I find if you update your software and run anti-virsu and anti-spyware programs one can run a tight ship.

Now, what are you going to do with a mac? seriosly, there is soo many games & software out here that you can download cracked/hacked versions of...why pay for mac stuff? there are far fewer people spending their time hacking mac software...That is my greatest arguement. Sure we all respect the languages of the world, but where would we be if the Japanese, Germans, french, Phillipinos, ETC to infinity didn't learn ENGLISH?

Yep, PC are the international language. Why would you spend 4 years learning how to speak tahitian language? macs are the sub-culture...the off the beaten path machines.....

Fuck Macs.
