Yes, definitely explore getting it fixed. The III is not as reliable as the later "monochassis" models (from the IIIc on), but is a wonderful machine. As to a repairer, the best I've found is Ken Ruth at Bald Mountain Photography (www.baldmtn.com, 813-423-4465). He overhauled my Leica IIIf a while back and did an excellent job. He sometimes gets a little backed up, so be patient.

thanks. I'll give him a call.not sure, these may well be IIIc or IIIf bodies, can't recall (my father has them), tho I know they're III of some sort.
