I remember when I was a college student and bought three or four wines to lay down and treasure. Came home one week-end and found them in a wine rack up on top of the refrigerator in my Mother's kitchen. This was in Austin, TX and my parents liked to keep the thermostat up high. Regardless, when I had them 4-7 years later to celebrate some great events, they were perfect.

If you want to be extra carefull, put your wine on the floor in a dark closet. Unless you're aging wines for 30+ years, cellars aren't necessary.
