This is a wine that defies history.Mr Hochar, the owner, has his vineyards situated in the Bekaa valley in Lebanon. Back in the 1970s/80s, Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East - hence the French style in his wines. During the troubles of the 1980s and the Israeli occupation (no offence here, I'm a Brit), he continued to harvest his grapes even though his vineyards were subject to katyusha rocket attacks etc. Most of us in Europe, who drank his wines couldn't believe that he continued to make wine in such adverse circumstances, let alone produce wines of continued blockbusting quality.
