Most wine will tavel(bad pun, sorry)travel well or we would not be getting wine except from our neighborhoods.Try not to cook it or freeze it and though it might not drink well for a while it will get over it.In Italy you have Tuscany to the north and Abruzzo to the west.Never been myself but an old friend has many times and loves Abruzzo more than any other part of Italy.Basically the way to get in places and wined and dined is through your wine merchant who will know the reps from Ruffino,Winebo and all the other major importers. There are people whose job it is to get clients in to meet winery owners, tours, maybe barrell tasting with the wine maker and sometimes a place to stay. You should have a great time and be sure and take notes on what you taste.Photos are nice but notes will always take you back.
