The fair was excellent again this year.
A great many wines deserve comment, but you'll get bored reading after a while. So, if I may, I'd like to list, in my opinion, a few outstanding wines. In no particular order (except the 2 Jim Barry wines)
1. Jim Barry 'Armagh Shiraz' Australia
Top wine, extraodinary extraction, complexity and texture.
2. Jim Barry 'McCrae wood' Shiraz. Younger sibling to the Armagh, all the complexity and style, but less intense.
3. Rustenberg '5 Soldiers' Chardy, S. Africa
4. Peter Barlow 'single vineyard' Cab Sauv, S. Africa
5. Cuvaison pinot noir '99. Napa Valley.
6. Yalumba Octavious, Menzies and Signature 'Blended reds' Barossa/Coonawarra
7. Laphroaig 30 yr old malt
8. Wild Turkey 25 year oldAlso worth a mention, the pinot noirs from Marlborough, and in particular, Martinborough, New Zealand. For such young vines and wines, they are showing very burgundian qualities. Will they age though?
OK enough, thank you for your time.
