I just did a barrel sampling of the whites and tasted the reds with Patrick Sere who imports the Joseph Drouhin wines. Every year I try to drop what I have on the schedule to make this event. In any case, I can report that for whites, this is one of the best vintages of the last 25 years. The wines have a powerful but integrated acidity, potential of rich fruit (they were barrel samples), and one of the strongest expressions of terroir I have tasted in white Bugundy. (particularly in Chablis!) As for the reds, a fertile vintage required a significant green harvest. Those who didn't prune back will have slightly diluted wines. For those who did, if Drouhin is any indication, will have wines of exceptional quality. These wines were rich with very ripe, sweet and developed tannins. These wines were gorgeous and surprisingly open. I was particularly surprised by the early drinkability of the Chambertin wines. The temptation to drink these wines young should be offset by what they will become.Sean
