If you want to get around the problem (and get a sly dig in at the same time) you say something along the lines of "Oh how nice of you. Do you mind if we use a red that I have already opened to allow it to breathe as it would take too long for your red to warm up - but we will keep it to use it for a Yule-tide punch at either your place or ours?" The white I guess you have to open and offer to anyone who wants it - maybe use the remnants in a sauce or mix it with fruit juice to make a long cool drink. Mind you, a poor white probably NEEDS anti-freeze to make it bearable!
